Clinical-Grade Whitening Strips
Whitening strips are perhaps the easiest of whitening options, as they can be applied at home without the help of a dental professional.
Whitening strips contain a pre-loaded amount of whitening gel, consisting mainly of peroxide. These strips eliminate any sort of mess that may be caused from a whitening gel syringe. The strong, sticky surface of the strips allows them to perfectly adhere and contour to the surfaces of the teeth. This bond prevents the whitening gel from escaping out of the strip, promoting a clean, mess-free whitening experience. The whitening strip is designed to sit on the teeth for a designated amount of time before removal, revealing a whiter smile.
Custom Bleach Trays
Unlike take-home whitening strips, custom bleach trays require a few appointments in the dentist chair. Here at Summer Dental, our team can create whitening trays made just for you that can be used for years to come!
First, impressions are taken of the teeth. This is usually performed with the use of a material known as alginate. The alginate is loaded into a tray and placed inside the mouth for about a minute. During this time, the putty-like material contours around the teeth and hardens. When the tray is removed from the mouth, it presents a perfect mold of the teeth. These molds are then sent to a dental lab, where a technician will pour in a light stone material. The finished product are two exact models of the upper and lower arch of teeth. These models are then used to create custom bleaching trays. A thick plastic material is heated, stretched, and brought down over the top of the model. The plastic perfectly contours to the teeth on the model, creating the custom trays. When the plastic cools, it is trimmed and given to the patient.
The patient will then take home the trays and whitening gel, and can load the trays with the gel for daily use.
ZOOM! In-Office Whitening
ZOOM! Is an in-office whitening treatment designed for individuals wanting immediate results.
First, molds of the teeth are taken, and custom trays are created. Usually, the trays will be ready for pick-up the following day after the procedure. The patient will also receive a few syringes of whitening gel for home use with their trays to prolong the results of the Zoom! treatment.
After filling out brief paperwork, the patient will sit for timed whitening sessions with the use of a light. A dental hygienist will place the special, clinical-grade light over the mouth to activate the whitening gel. The whitening gel, in combination with the light, is used to quickly remove built-up stains that form on the enamel.
While the Zoom! treatment is the most expensive teeth-whitening option, many people see the value in having the procedure to receive the best results quickly.
