At Summer Dental, we always have your oral and overall health in mind, which is why we provide wisdom teeth extraction services, along with general teeth extractions.
Though some people never get them, wisdom teeth are the final permanent teeth that erupt through your gums. They often don’t fit properly in the jaw, so they can cause problems, such as impacted teeth.
Impacted teeth keep the wisdom teeth from breaking through the gums because your jaw does not have room for them. Impacted teeth can cause an infection, damage to other teeth and structures of your mouth, or a cyst. An impacted wisdom tooth may also grow at an unusual angle, which can cause discomfort and infection.
Why Should I Get My Wisdom Teeth Removed?
By getting your wisdom teeth removed, you can protect your smile and prevent pain. Wisdom teeth extractions can counteract many problems, including the following:
- Infection caused by partial wisdom tooth eruption.
- Crowding of surrounding teeth.
- Decay.
- Gum disease.
- Crooked teeth.
By getting your wisdom teeth removed, you can protect your smile and prevent pain.
How Does the Procedure Work?
Our dentist can check out the growth of your wisdom teeth. This will determine whether an extraction can be taken care of in our office, or if you will need to see an oral surgeon. Once the time for the procedure has come, you will be given an anesthetic and surgery will take place to remove the wisdom tooth or teeth.
Recovery usually takes a few days. During this time, you should be careful to take the prescribed painkillers. It is important to also follow our instructions on what to eat, what level of physical activity to maintain, and other ways to recuperate.
