Here are a few common dental emergencies and what you can do before seeing us if an emergency occurs:
Extreme tooth pain or toothache | Avoid hard foods or those high in sugar. Though you will want to relieve pain, it is best not to use aspirin on the ache. Rinse your mouth with warm water, then carefully remove any debris between your teeth with floss.
Knocked out tooth | If possible, try to place the misplaced tooth back in its socket, but do not touch the root. If this is not possible, try to keep the tooth moist by keeping it in milk, a tooth preservation solution, or in between your gums and your cheek.
Cracked or chipped tooth | Clean the crack or the chip by gently rinsing your mouth with warm water. If you notice swelling on your face, use a cold compress for relief.
Bad tongue or lip bite | Just like with cracked or chipped teeth, be sure to clean the area of the bite and apply a cold compress to alleviate pain and swelling.
